Tornadoes. I was in two tornados as a child, and for a few years I hid in the closet whenever there was a bad thunderstorm.

@exexec well that’s not silly at all. I used to anxiety when it hailed due to having a tornado come within a quarter mile of our rural house in Nebraska. It got our neighbor’s barn & mules and laid the electric poles over. We were in the basement and it was hailing so hard that we didn’t even hear the tornado. My father was drunk and sitting at the front door watching and saw it about a mile away.

@cherokeepatti Tornadoes were fairly rare where we lived, although they are more common now.

@exexec this was in the middle of Nebraska in the mid-60s and there was an outbreak of tornadoes that day. They counted 42 total in the central part. Fortunately they were the weaker tornadoes.

@NativePortlander1970 I lived in Georgia and we had no warning sirens or anything. Our tornadoes were usually small ones with little damage, but I didn't know that when I was a kid.
