Actually shooting yourself, or just the expression people say when someone gets themselves into more trouble than they could've been if they just kept quiet?

@natureboy3 I didn’t know this was a UK expression. It’s pretty common in the U.S. (“wow, he really shot himself in the foot [b]that[/b] time !”)
