Different belief systems say basically the same thing. Problems is, it doesn't happen 100% of the time and even when it does, we don't know when, and more disturbing, HOW it will arrive.
It may be granted under really bad circumstances that we didn't expect.
I know that sounds weird but it does happen.

@bijouxbroussard I guess nothing really comes for free. I was glancing over a synopsis of that story and part of it said -
• The First Wish: Mr. White rescues the paw from the coals. Prompted jokingly by his son Herbert, Mr. White wishes for £200 to pay off their house. The paw twists in his hand like a snake.
• The Price: The next day, a representative from Herbert's employer arrives to announce that Herbert was killed in a horrific machinery accident. The company denies liability but offers compensation of exactly £200.

@SunSetStrut Your description really brought to mind that story, which gave me chills as a kid.

@bijouxbroussard I went through something similar a few years ago.
Sometimes we make idle jokes or small wishes and they end up happening in a bizarre way.
