One of those "have to write it down before I forget" moments

My dream job has always been librarian.

Even more so when "The Mummy" came out and that was also one of the main characters dream, which I'd never heard anyone say before.

The one time I thought it all lined up was when I was working at a bookstore called "Borders", my first job. I shelved books all day. That was my role, shelving. I was seasonal and it was the holidays.

This was the first time I thought, "never work where your love is". Shelving was just boring to me, no thought involved, just a shuffling of books from one shelf to another. An onslaught of the new same books that no one was buying anyway that we had to make room for, because "christmas".

It would have been so much better if everyone could switch it up. Monotony is the killer of spirit.

One day a lady came in and stopped me to ask if I could find this specific book. Normally I should have looked for a "bookseller" but I wanted to help and I knew every cover in that place. Most summaries too. That made me slow at shelving as you can imagine. She couldn't remember the author or name. But she remembered the story and cover.

I didn't even look it up, I knew exactly the book she wanted. The exact section. And it was.

That was the best moment ever when she said it was the one she was looking for. I felt like I actually DID something for once.

The one problem about that job was...I was stock/shelving only. Not to talk to customers. I interacted with questions too much and I was slow at shelving (due to checking out the book) so I did end up getting fired, understandably. You would think as an introvert I would love quietly shelving.

But when I was in my favorite place talking about my favorite things, I WANTED to talk to people.

That is truly my passion.

I've thought about going into the process of becoming a librarian the likes of "The New York Public Library".
Do it. Be a librarian. Libraries need people who love the idea of being there.
