Who invented butter? Were they just mad at milk and tried to beat the shit out of it?

I wonder about stuff like that. They find a new plant that looks and smells good so someone eats it and they die. But how do they know that's what killed them? So someone else has to eat it. Probably a guy in a red shirt.
