My father has crossed the line.

About a year ago now (and I'm convinced he doesn't remember that it's been that long), our dishwasher broke. I don't remember what's wrong with it, but we've had two separate repair specialists tell us it would be cheaper to replace than repair. Dad just kept saying we could replace it in a couple more weeks, and a couple more weeks, and a couple more weeks. That's always his excuse. "We don't have the money now, but just wait a couple more weeks."

Whatever.

So this past June, we got a new Windows 11 laptop, and my mom managed to download some weird thing from Facebook that started popping up endless ads, so I had to take it to the repair shop and have them wipe the damn thing. While I was down there, I let them talk me into getting Asurion home coverage for our phones and computers. This also allowed me to put major appliances such as the dishwasher under the Asurion coverage.

Now, first thing I did was I asked if the dishwasher was covered immediately upon starting the insurance, and of course it wasn't. Had to wait 30 days. Then I forgot for a couple of months, and suddenly remembered at the tail end of September, and filed the claim. Sure enough, for a $99 deductible, they sent us $905 to go spend on a new dishwasher.

Cut to yesterday. Mom and I were shopping for dishwashers, and found one that we could purchase from Home Depot and have installed for a total of $987. They'll even haul the old one away. We very excitedly told my dad, and what does he say? Couple of weeks.

So first thing tomorrow, I'm going to pull that insurance money from the checking account and put it in an envelope marked "Dishwasher money his majesty won't let us spend", and put it in a prominent place.

He's not stealing that insurance money from us.
