Mom has been out of action since Friday with the biggest kidney stone she's had.

She tried to tough it out through the pain Friday, so by the time she finally let me take her to urgent care, she was really hurting. They sent her over to the emergency room, and I stayed with her Friday until about 4:00, because somebody had to go feed the dog and give the insulin injection to the cat and put food on the table for the family.

Waited all Friday evening for updates. Providence wouldn't give them. I had to call them to find out what was going on, and they said they were transferring her to St. Vincent via ambulance because they have a urology department. Swore up and down they'd call me once she got there.

No call. Even though there was a note to call me once she arrived, nobody said a word. I finally called back at 8:30, because I hadn't heard anything. Oh, yeah, she was there, she was just fine. But I guess just screw me for wanting to know. By then, of course, it was too late to go visit her, but they said they'd call me.

Didn't hear a damn thing until 6:00 a.m. and of course you call me at that hour and it's a crapshoot whether you'll wake me up or not. So I called them back at 8:00 a.m. when I realized I'd missed their call. They said she was just getting out of surgery, and they would call me if anything developed.

And of course they didn't.

Around 12:15 or so, Mom messaged me on Facebook to tell me she had surgery, and of course is one of those times that I'm in Facebook jail because I dared to call someone an @$$hole for calling me a f@660t. So I called her. She sounded terrible, couldn't form coherent sentences, and generally sounded like it should have been a text, but she was finally able to confirm what the hospital refused to tell me, that they were keeping her another night. By then, I had already canceled all my plans for the day, including my cat's trip to the vet that I had rescheduled from Friday because I wasn't going to be available. But who cares, right?

Brian and his kid came over and provided a little bit of relief from all of this crap. He brought over a belated birthday present that we played all night. That helped. But it didn't really alleviate the fact that this morning, I would have to lay out all of his never-ending meds for the week, because goddess forbid he do it himself.

Heard from Mom this morning. Her phone is dying, because I forgot to drop off a charger at the emergency room when I left her there, and apparently they don't have a spare charger at Providence. She doesn't know when she's coming home, but it's going to be today. So literally everything else is on hold again.

Which I have feelings about, and I've let them creep in here a bit, but hopefully, your takeaway from this is that I love her and miss her, and I'm mad at Providence for their inability to communicate.

I've yet to encounter a hospital that doesn't suck to one degree or another. Bad communication is way too common. As long as she's getting proper care at the end of the day that's all that matters.
