Update:
We left the ER at 3:00 a.m. The doctors did a CT, a chest X-ray, blood glucose testing, and several other tests on him that took half the night, but they couldn't find a reason why his legs are suddenly giving out under him. They recommended physical therapy, which is in keeping with my observation that he doesn't walk nearly enough.
