People who say they don’t like to sit around

They like to be out and busy or always doing something. And it seems we praise these people. When I was younger yes I wanted to be doing something but not anymore.

Now you have people out there that volunteer and are involved in all kinds of stuff. But maybe they do it, because they need to keep busy or they will get to thinking about problems or mistakes in life. And then get depressed or turn to alcohol or drugs. Well that is not me I’m fine to think and reflect.

If you think you know what I’m talking about.

I am involved in bringing a car load of food from our local food pantry once a week to share with my neighbors.

I didn't start doing it because I need to keep busy. I started doing it when I saw a sign posted in my apartment building that said the Salvation Army would NOT be delivering food to income challenged residents in my apartment building for the months of November and December!

I'm not sure why, but that made me VERY angry! The thought that for two months out of every year the only food the poor people living in my apartment building would receive was ONE turkey dinner which would have to last them for 30 days...well...I got furiously angry.

Ever since, I have been driving to the local food pantry and bringing back a car load of food every week...and unfortunately, that has expanded to bringing food to a friend who can't see well enough to drive anymore...and double triple unfortunately, it has also expanded to working two additional days every month cleaning out the community room fridge. If it wasn't cleaned once a week it would fill up with rotten food.

Just to let you know...there are many, many days when I DON'T want to go out, and I DON'T want to do any of it. But for Pete's sake...there are people living here who can't drive to get food at the food pantry themselves if they run short at the end of the month.

@4meAndyou I understand you see a need, so you fulfill it. Of course, I have done things to help out people, but I’m not gonna get involved in some organization to help people. I help people as it comes my way. I guess from trying to say is, I’m not gonna go out looking to lend a hand.
