You know what was interesting?

I recently watched a video essay on how to argue effectively on political issues. The thesis was, when arguing with conservatives, it’s far more effective to bring up things like honor and purity and economics than it is to bring up morals and humanity.

It is true, it’s not wrong. And this is the world we live in. As my favorite union rep on here says “do you want to be right or do you want to win?”

Remember what you’re standing against that you have to do this, but also remember winning is what matters. Not winning on your terms. That entire ideology must be stopped for the good of everyone.

Don’t talk about what would convince you; focus on what would convince them. Worry about a world without that heartless opposition another day.

Today is not the day for that.

The first mistake is thinking that you have to "argue" at all. Youll get much farther in any endevour if you give up the idea that there is only one right way and you have to win at all costs.

This post is disturbing.
"it’s far more effective to bring up things like honor and purity and economics than it is to bring up morals and humanity."

As if free thought and opposing viewpoints are the problem?

If you have completely shut out any possibility that you may not be 100% right and that there is nothing you can learn from anyone with an opposing viewpoint, there is no reason to even have the discussion and you have reached the level of the nazi's "Final solution".

"Remember what you’re standing against that you have to do this, but also remember winning is what matters. Not winning on your terms. That entire ideology must be stopped for the good of everyone"

Good lord. There is a Holocaust survivor somewhere in a cold sweat right now.

@krf336 It’s not about different opinions. It’s about particular opinions that must be stopped. It’s really not that hard to understand.

@PalteseMalconFunch It shouldnt be difficult, but you seem to have a hard time with it. Saying different opinions are ok but "Particular opinions that must be stopped" is an extremely disturbing idea.
Who gets to decide what particular ideas must be eradicated (that is a different word that means exactly what you are calling for), and who is to say how that needs to happen. When you start identifying things that you want to dissapear, its a slippery slope that leads right to gas chambers and gulags in a just few short years.
Then millions of lives are put in jeapardy to eradicate your idea and everyone who tries to limit free thought and opinion.

@Virgo79 I stop when they resort to name calling and insults.

@krf336 I've kinda got to expect that.

@krf336 You keep trying to compare what I’m saying to Nazis because you completely and totally misunderstand everything I’m saying.

I think deliberately so.

Nazism is a good example of something that can never ever happen again and must be stopped at all costs.

Why are you not understanding this?
