You know what was interesting?

I recently watched a video essay on how to argue effectively on political issues. The thesis was, when arguing with conservatives, it’s far more effective to bring up things like honor and purity and economics than it is to bring up morals and humanity.

It is true, it’s not wrong. And this is the world we live in. As my favorite union rep on here says “do you want to be right or do you want to win?”

Remember what you’re standing against that you have to do this, but also remember winning is what matters. Not winning on your terms. That entire ideology must be stopped for the good of everyone.

Don’t talk about what would convince you; focus on what would convince them. Worry about a world without that heartless opposition another day.

Today is not the day for that.

Tbh I think I know what you mean. I used to think in terms of like, life or death survival for the USA, as if everything in the world had to benefit us or it was against us. Then I realized there are actually people in real life or death situations and I was getting caught up in trying to keep my own head above the water without considering that.

@SinlessOnslaught Yea. that’s a hard jump to make. It requires a lot of empathy. It’s easy and comfortable to draw lines of division.

It’s much more difficult to think to yourself “well I would not do that, but also I have never been pushed that far”

It’s the second part that so many fail in understanding. They stop at the first part. They view everyone as enemies. But they don’t realize that given enough pressure they would become everything they look down on.
