How is it even possible to maintain a 'routine'?

I find myself just impulsively doing things outside of stuff I need to do every day. It's hard to imagine me being motivated enough to go to the same cafe for a week. Or walk to the same place. Or whatever routines are comprised of

I have to have a bit of one, but it drives me insane and when I have free time to myself I try to do too much at once because I can't keep up with life. I wish it were more simple
