Breast Implants

Bit of a random title, I guess, but just a little thought about that today.

The BBC news were doing an article on breast implants and the dangers of the silicone implants. Now, back in - I think - the 90's there was a whole thing about faulty implants that had a habit of leaking. Sounds funny ha ha, right? Well, no.

Silicon can cause lifelong medical illness and pain as it's absorbed into the body. It can lead to death too. And, I mean, people have breast implants for many reasons, not just because of vanity. Cancer survivors have breast reconstruction for not only physical wellbeing but mental and emotional wellbeing too.

The lady in the report had leakage and, with the NHS waiting lists being as they were, she was having to undergo funding it herself, to the tune of £11k, I think she said.

So, it's always been a little fear of mine, that has. I, myself, have had breast implants for a very long time, due to work and have had, I wouldn't know what the actual terminology is, a 'retread' every 10-11 years. My next surgery should be next year...and, yes, I obviously pay private.

Thankfully I've never had any leakage or incidents with mine.

Just been a little on my mind.

My sister in law is currently going through surgeries to reconstruct hers after multiple bouts with breast cancer. They started doing some funky chest expansion thing and they are taking her own fat now to start rebuilding but they aren"t doing it all at once. She has had some complications even with using her own tissue. I have a large chest and have considered reduction, but after watching her fo the fat injections I am not to keen on letting them slice on me. I thibk i would be horrified with breast inplants too. I will pray for you in your upcoming surgery.

@jackson55 Some do, some don't. Some just go xxl size and, obviously they look fake. But just going a little bigger, and letting them settle in somewhat, is the way to go for me.

@SammyJo Hers are not XXL, but they do look like they have been pumped up with air. She certainly doesn’t need a bra.
Best of luck with yours.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@jackson55 Well, that's the thing...they do stay 'pert'...and there's little need for bras...

Thank you.

I've always been... I don't know, let's call it a bit adverse to the idea of implants, but I certainly can see where reconstructive implants are a positive thing for some, and for sure, if it helps mentally/emotionally, then go for it.

I think, outside of the danger of implants, I have... again, I'm not sure what to call it, but let's just say a bit of anger towards the male population that we judge women based upon the size/shape of their breasts.

Still, we do, so I can why, for work, you have them... makes good business sense😉. I can also see why you have a "retread" every 10 years or so - smart move on your part.

Do you think, if you were in a different profession, you would have had the implants?
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@Ontheroad Let's say it was more than encouraged and, as you go through life getting used to be a certain way then it can be hard to get your head around that...which is why I do a like for like kind of thing.

If I hadn't had them then, yes, I more than likely wouldn't be interested in having them.

I think the fact that you go in for replacement surgery helps a lot. I know people that have gotten sick from saline or silicone and in all of those cases, they left the implants in for 20 years or more. Leakage after many years is a risk one other thing people overlook is that the membrane is also permeable on a microscopic level. Ever look at a saline breast implant after it’s been removed after 20+ years? And my opinion, they should not be left in the body any longer than a maximum of 10 years. No matter what fluid you choose, saline, silicone, or silicone gel. Besides, it gives you an opportunity to go just a little bit bigger.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@bert199 Agreed.

I have a friend that had silicone oil leakage from some cheap omplants she had done when she was in her twenties. It must have been back alley stuff. It leaked out and she just about died from it. The stuff was not medical grade. Some of those back alley people don't even use silicone oil. Back when DOW was being sued their material was medical geade and that stuff has been proven to be safe.

Don't they smuggle liquid cocaine in those things?
They are dangerous if they leak for sure. Why did you get them? Did you ever think they were a waste of money? And surgeries always have a risk no matter what.
@SammyJo I find that sad. You could get education. Selling your body will get old. Traditionx are supposed to be positive. Aren't you worried about getting raped or beaten? Even kidnapped and killed?

Hopefully. I meant you were not smart to get involved in it from your family. I do.not feel you are smart now continuing with it. That is how I feel. Be safe. No need to debate.

@PoetryNEmotion Sweetheart, I AM old! 54, this year. I will continue until I retire. Yes, I was raped earlier in my career. Not nice for anyone.

I am well educated. I have a side job as a qualified counsellor, dealing with individuals - usually other hookers - with drink and drug issues. I am well read...I speak a few languages....I am good.

The problem with people....and not just you....is that others are 'valued' by their frame of reference....and, just because they don't 'fit' your frame of reference doesn't make them any less valuable than you. We are all who we are.

As Bill & Ted say...'Be Excellent To Each Other...'

Thank you.

@SammyJo You can live your life however you want. I do not have to agree. You say you are well educated yet you continue to sell your body for money despite the fact it is dangerous and unhealthy.That isn't smart to me. Yes, you are older. And that is sad that you are still doing this. You are not as intelligent as you think. Adios.

It would take a lady with your foresight to explain this to the possible implanties, and you do it well.

One of the many needs for your work? I feel sadness and respect for you and am happy to know you.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@Uncfred Thanks Fred. Erhhhhh...hmmmmmm....I think it was the certainly the main one, at that time. The other was to stay 'not pregnant'.

I don’t think silicon is used anymore.
bert199 · 51-55, M
@MrBrownstone today’s current available options are sailing, silicone, and a silicone gel like substance, which has a thicker viscosity.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@MrBrownstone I'm not sure. I know that saline is, or at least was the last time, the big thing...pardon the pun....
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@SammyJo Should 2 big things. :)
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
Whatever we put in this body that’s unnatural, there a high risk of repercussions!!
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@Quimliqer Very true.
Did you have them put in as you was small or it helped you in your work
SammyJo · 51-55, F
@nevergiveup I think it was more an 'advertising' thing rather than anything else. I was happy enough with the size already. I've never been really body image conscious as such.
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
That's a few weeks off work then??...
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
@SammyJo Be plenty of movies watched in the cinema Room!! X
SammyJo · 51-55, F
