How often do you re-examine your own beliefs and principles?

Each time I perceive some cognitive dissonance. It's more about expanding my perspective than reversing old beliefs. Except regarding trust, I have grown more wary of people.

I don't even know anymore. Feels like age and experience make you become more cemented in your own ideals.
Abstraction · 61-69, M
Quite consciously and frequently. The post-truth era has disturbed me greatly to see how much political bias or conspiracies can turn into unbelievably strong cognitive bias to the point of denying evidence. So I have to be honest with myself and step back from things I'm emotionally affected by - my world view, my politics, etc - and be prepared to look at it afresh.
I also review my 'trusted' sources - what media I'm looking at and where it steps from verifiable, factual reporting to just stirring up outrage or other emotions which is a trigger and call sign of manipulation, intended or otherwise.
I'm serious about this. If I can't put the beliefs I hold most dearly on the line and re-ask questions about them I might be no different to the people who think Sandy Hook was made up.
How good I am at it I don't know.
My principles - I ask questions but they're pretty solid. Always treat people with dignity. Always be honest. Don't betray people. Care about others, not just yourself and those who make you happy. Try to make a positive contribution to the world. Be responsible for my actions and apologise when I get it wrong... Anyone want to argue with these things?
Each time I am confronted by a person who has different beliefs. I don’t always change, but I check how things sit.

If I encounter a situation or a reason that drives me to do that, then yes. I may not have many qualities, but I tend to question myself a lot.. and if I feel something is not right in the way I think or behave, I have no problem admitting it to myself, and to try to change. Not that I am always successful in changing, but I try. 🤷‍♀️🥔

If one takes one step forward and then two step backwards, they're probably not on the right path...
@Unlearn But how do you know what the right path is if you close your mind off from the world?
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@LowBorn right...
Honestly at this point very rarely but it's because I have a sort of blind dumb luck and am usually not wrong but people get this totally assassine like misunderstanding of me in that they think I revel in accurate prediictions when in fact I find it all very tragic and honestly when you're the cassandra that's predicting catastrophe an it actually happens its horrifying when it does.

last thing I want is to actually be right most of the time. i just unfortunately usually am.

i don't have any. i react to events the way i do.

principles and beliefs are the social stencil you use to evaluate your attitude to an event.

this assessment helps you to fit events into your picture of the world and to feel comfortable with social self-identification.

if you trust yourself, you don't need it. stereotypes are always artificial. in reality, their boundaries are blurred and are usually based on other stereotypes.

Pretty frequently, I think as you age, greater experience shows chinks in the armor of self. Other than my faith, just about every core belief I held when I was younger has been turned 180.
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
Beliefs are lies we tell ourselves, to avoid the reality that we are mortal.

Whenever I have a doubt

Am I wrong ?

Was I right ?

I'm open to accept new beliefs as long it makes sense to me.
dontbekoi · 36-40, F
Whenever my beliefs are challenged, I re-examine them.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M

All of the time. Its a constant process not always conciously but what type of person just decides things once and never allows new information to help them adjust course?
SW-User
When I truly believe what I believe.... I don't examine mine as much as I do others.

I do examine my own ways, but my core beliefs, principles and values are not going to change and go way off track from what I've always felt and believed.
Whenever age and fear would start to make them conservative.
That’s not who I am. 🤨
