I forgot to put a cinder block on the toilet lid once I was done with it. Now the thing in the sewers has escaped into the house

What would you do in such a predicament?

Does the loo have one of those s-bend things? They are supposed to block sewer gases backflowing and they're meant to go out via a vent pipe connected to atmosphere. but maybe that's not how it's normally done in the US?
