Do you think you are a natural counsellor, the wealth of your experience, or do you need to train to assist another person?

I'd like to think that with my life experience having been through a fair amount I can offer sound advice when needed. I often give advice to friends and colleagues, which they are grateful for. The old saying, the older you are, the wiser you are is normally true.

A little bit of both, it depends what they need assistance with.

No idea, but many years ago I worked for a county mental health office and one day I was the only person there to run the Hotline. It wasn't supposed to be my job, but I took over and did my best trying to help people, give then references to specific resources, etc. It was VERY fulfilling helping people, I wished i could have done more of it.

Life experience helps, but the goal of counciling is to not cause dependence on you,but to help them become independent.
If a person is unwilling to become independent then it won't be mentoring any longer, but continually rescuing them and that's exausting.
