Discipline

-----------------------------------------------

Discipline is defined as the practice of training oneself or others to obey rules, maintain order, and build self-control to achieve goals, often involving consistent action rather than just punishment. It also stems from the latin form, disciplina as in; instruction or training. Closely related to "disciple".

Instruction, training, tuition, willpower.

Let me see if I can break it down on my own. I have trouble getting myself to do important work on occasion. I have very little discipline and continue to run from a lot of the things I NEED to do. I'm not proud of myself sometimes. I don't feel the need to specify what it is that I feel unmotivated to do, but my point is, I'm not sure how to give myself the motivation and discipline I need to complete the tasks at hand. As if I need to distract myself from getting it done. I'll play video games, or go for a motorcycle ride. I window shop or try to talk to friends. Worse yet, I'll doom-scroll through TikTok, Instagram, and the like. I've pulled some of those apps away from my home screen on my phone to make me feel less tempted and tried to set alarms on my phone while gaming to give myself a limited amount of time. There are many questions. One that instantly comes to mind is trying to decide if I'm trying to do it for someone else or for myself.

To begin my change, I can actually pay attention to the timers I set for myself while working. When I am given a task, either write it down to complete after finishing the task at hand or complete it immediately. Putting it off, or procrastinating, is not the way to go.

Who am I talking to? I'm talking to myself. I'm not looking for answers. I'm getting my thoughts out on paper. I'm tired of writing in a journal. I enjoy the idea of sharing. I have nothing to hide. A friend of mine began a motivational YouTube channel many years ago in hopes to reach people who are struggling. Give them a sense that they are not alone. With my writings, I hope to do the same.

I set the timers too. I have a list in my phone what I need to accomplish every day. .

Without the list and the timers I’d never get anything done.

@Jenny1234 I just have to train myself to listen to mine.

@AtlasScar d ok you ignore them or snooze them?

@Jenny1234 neither. If I set a 15 minute one, I’ll end up setting it again for 15. If I set an actual timer I’ll ignore and forget.
