I Am Afraid of Failure

Nothing to fear but fear itself right? I know it is irrational....that it is False Evidence Appearing Real and I shouldn't let it hold me back but it does. I doubt my abilities to the point that I struggle with sometimes the simplest of tasks. Other times I can jump off a cliff while doing a back flip like it is nothing. I just don't get it.....

Oddly enough I have never suffered from this type of fear. With my highschool grades being the joke that they were one would think that I would.
But for some reason when I wanted to do something, really wanted it, I have just jumped in and gone for it without thinking can I or can't I. Only later being afraid looking back and saying what have I gotten myself into?!
Have you ever done that? Just went for something because you wanted it badly and just jumped in without thinking? If so even the smallest of things, I wonder if you could harness that in small ways to subdue your fears. Maybe you just haven't found the things that you want badly enough that you don't care about failure just want it enough that you'd keep at it even if there was failure along the way.
Everyone feels like you at times I think even if it doesn't become out and out debilitating fear. I wish you the best in overcoming it.

Read this book:
The Gift of Fear
by Gavin DeBecker.

It will help you learn the difference between useful real fear and useless anxiety.

Then read:

How To Stop Worrying And Start Living
by Dale Carnegie

Both books are good reads and both can teach you a lot about fear, both real and unreal.

@greenmountaingal Ill have to look into that. Thanks

@Silentpleasure When people say fear is "false evidence appearing real" they are not really referring to actual fear; they are talking about anxiety.

I am heartily sorry for you that you have that kind of fear. I know the fear well, I've experienced it in my own life. You're not alone.

The fear of the unknown fuelled by fear of failure makes us go in a shelland thus prevent us from expliting our real strengths..one has to learn from failures and not be afraid to fail..when u try,,yearn ..u shall fail sometimes pass sometimes..
