how do you 'get over' a hard past

i won't go into too much detail on this post but in my life i've suffered abuse, bullying, physical attacks where i was seriously hurt in full view of the public....dealing with mental problems as well....and there's times i have flashbacks or upsetting memories which cause me distress....i'm now 47 years old.

how do i come to terms with my past, let go and move on?

I have had severe abuse for decades growing up...I can identify. I'm finding this new book to be helpful, called "CBT for dummies". (Cognitive Behavioral therapy). It's Def interesting. CBT is a method of observing our trauma or thoughts in different ways to find peace or healing. Like, 'Im so inadequate " can be rethought into "I have done many things pretty well."

@Coralmist with due respect, CBT is not good for trauma.

@Wiseacre @Wiseacre Hmm I've read several times that is an essential treatment. What is a treatment for trauma?

@Coralmist ACT..see my answer.

@Wiseacre I was curious why you had mentioned CBT was not good for trauma?

@Coralmist CBT focuses on changing thought patterns, while traumas need deep emotional work and safety. CBT doesn't deal with the core of one's pain.
