I'm feeling extremely helpless at the moment, and I just really need someone to talk to right now.

ok.. well in my adult opinion... from one adult to another:
1) you don't need to explain all the details to your family. you lost your job. You were told that you didn't need your services anymore. leave it at that.
2.) Hello? Do you need a job or not? If you're an athiest, so what. You know people in your world have issues with it, why do you "need" to fly your flag? It's time to grow up and be objective about the world you are trying to navigate... just for now.
3.) It doesn't matter if the world has problem with you. they are not going to change! what you can change is how YOU navigate jobs, society, the store, etc
FYI: I have many friends and my own daughter who are atheist. … Is to everyone with kindness and respect no matter what. doesn't matter if they're judging and Christian or whatever... Be your BEST self.
