how do you deal with being ' on your own'

alone completely? this is me, ive lived alone 20 years now in a little apartment...i also struggle with a personality disorder...and a lot of times, mainly at night, i feel very alone, completely on my own...and loneliness and emptiness sets in.

my only support system are my elderly mum and dad, and they live far away...i lost touch with the one or two friends from my youth...never had a girlfriend or been in a relationship.

i'm trying to get out more now by going swimming at the leisure centre...but i stil have to come back to an empty, lonely apartment...where i deal with severe loneliness.

Just a thought, but have you considered joining a church congregation? Lots, if not most churches have a pretty thick activity schedule and opportunities to volunteer and participate on many levels. If a nearby church there will likely also be those living near you who belong to the same church.

How about just dropping by a few nearby churches on a Sunday during their services? Look around and think about whether the people there might be people who you would like to know.

@durinsBane1983 Pick a nearby church and you can probably find their presence in a website on the internet. Go there (the website) and and you can probably find pages and pages of their various involvements. And likely find a download for their weekly bulletin which show same. There will likely be dozens if not hundreds of things they do and which have an underlying sub-community. If you are a Catholic you probably remember the Knights of Columbus, and the choir, and the Legion of Mary, and a hundred more sub-parts of the parish. Not all of which may appeal to you, but likely some will.

I'm likewise Catholic.
