I Need Advice

I never thought that my sister would be good at nursing because as you say I didn't think that she could handle losing patients BUT it turns out that that same compassion and empathy made her a truly Great nurse.. She learned to cope with losing patients because in the end we aren't made for this world anyway and nobody would want someone dear to us whether a patient or a loved one to continue suffering.. As a nurse she applies every effort to care and advocate for her patients to be as comfortable and pain free as possible while using all reasonable means if its possible for them to recover. Also, there are all different areas of nursing some of which don't deal with death quite as much.. That said though death is often a part of being in the medical field but it is just part of a much bigger picture of the health that you want for your patients. I hope this helps someone as I realized while writing this that the advice was sought out 3+ years ago

Well business people just seem to want money, but i can tell you this, nurses are amazing, the jon, the care, without them i wouldnt be alive today

Nursing is not a glamorous career. It is only becoming harder and heavier. Managers have unrealistic rules. The public mostly doesn't respect us. I would suggest business. You might like to help people but nursing will wear you out. And there is no leniency for you as you become older in nursing. I am a nurse and this is honest advice.

Don't judge a career on how much money you could make,nor judge a career choice on its prospects,judge it on will I be happy with the career choice for the rest of my life,because when all is said and done you will always be just a number on a payroll system.your life is what you make it,your choices will define your success or failure.

There's not guaranteed money in business. Schools are turning out business majors left and right.
I'm pretty sure there's still a shortage of nurses. My roommate is a nurse and makes good money. Not all nurses lose patients. She started her career on a orthopedic floor, not a place where people die.

My sister went into nursing and thought she would have a gard time with losing patients, but it is a profession where that's what you see often so you learn to see death and dying as a part of living and also its important to realize that as a nurse in that situation you learn that while your patient (the family's mother/father etc) is dying that you are also there to help making the patient's a time of dignified transition while caring also for the family who are present. My sister is a nurse who is exceedingly good at this aspect of her profession and I always will say that I'm very proud of my sister.

So much to consider, it can be a hard choice to make. I'm helping young people make it every year and my advice is: choose something you would enjoy doing. Don't be put of by it being hard. Instead, make your choice, then work hard to be the best you can be.

That said, nursing is really hard. It's also quite often not paid that well. But it's always on demand and very rewarding. If you think you can handle it, I'd go for it.

The question ultimatively is: what do you want to do with your life. Which can be hard to answer at your age, I know. But honestly ask yourself, then go with your answer and give your best to make your dream come true.

Follow your passion, because you need to enjoy what you're doing

You could go into something like pediatric nursing, and I dont know where you're from, but nursing makes good money here and there are openings everywhere so it has the advantage thatyou can pick where you want to love and there will probably be openings nearby.

Over 80% of college students do not get a job in their major. They end up doing something else because that’s where their life took them. Find a major that you like, but don’t let it control your destiny.

Do something you really want to do and be happy with your choice. You are young and may change your mind several times before you decide what you really want to do long term.

Nursing is in high demand. And will be for quite a while. Best bet. Business is boring. 👍
