Last I read, she had no plans to.

Why not?

She'd be a fool. They're trying to make an example of her now, it's not about "justice". If they didn't have enough evidence the first time, why should she voluntarily put herself in the position of being convicted on possibly something trumped-up ? At least in the U.S. there's "double jeopardy" and they can't keep on trying.

She was convicted, and acquitted on appeal. Her appeal was thrown out so they should have a re-trial.

But she WAS acquitted. They shouldn't be able to appeal an acquittal in the first place. It's not like a mistrial, where no decision was reached. She'd be a fool to voluntarily return, but it depends on the extradition laws; if they can refuse to extradite someone back here who might face the death penalty, we should be able to refuse to extradite where there's no double jeopardy statute. One could be acquitted and retried again and again indefinitely based upon that.

The original trial verdict was a conviction. On appeal she was acquitted on the grounds of poor evidence. That decision has now been over-ruled, and a re-trial has been ordered.

Then they shouldn't have acquitted her, they should've thrown out the verdict and retried her then. An acquittal is having been found not guilty. Obviously Italian law is different than U.S. law, but like I said, she would be a fool to voluntarily go back and let them possibly railroad her, especially if she knows herself to be innocent.
