Why do so many Americans love their guns?

coloco
We have always had them, we will always keep them. It is part of our constitution. When I was a kid, I would find a note on the table, get 3 rabbits for dinner. I would grab the rifle and go get 3 rabbits. It was not a big deal, even stopped by the sheriff once, all he wanted to know was where in the area was a good place to hunt. I have no idea what has happened since, if my kids screwed up with a gun they got there ass blistered, it is not something you can tolorate, seems people have lost the guts to even stand up to their own kids.
But, were I live, the gun is self protection when the minimum time to get the police into our area is 35 minutes, it is a means to protect our animals from coyotes, hawks, eagles and loose dogs. Try taking my gun, you might as well kill me now, someone else will do it later. My dad is 80, a van pulled up off the road a half mile to the house with the lights off. After three hellos, he put a load of shot into the side of the van. It left, wonder what would have happened had he not done that.
No, I'll keep my guns....

There are a lot of undesirables in my state. If my house is going to be robbed, I want to be in a position to shoot them dead. That simple.

I am also agains assault weapons except for special police teams and the military. The crooks, and the IRS should not have them. They should be jailed for a long time.
18EXP11
Actually, they do.
18EXP11
yup.

For me it's been a tradition to hunt and carry a gun in my family for generations. My gun is always with me and I feel like I've lost something when I have to leave it behind. I guess it just is a part of my uniform so to say. Anyway, like my mother and her mother and her mother I carry my gun and feel like I'm not fully dressed without it.

Ever had to use it?
Martha45
I've been very lucky and no but I have come close a few times. Thanks for not being nasty about my gun. :)

You posted an intelligent answer. Respect!

For many like myself it is not a principle of loving guns but rather a principle ba<x>sed upon the freedom to own and operate a fire arm. Also firearms are necessary to keep the criminals in our government and wall street on their toes. Without weapons, how do we fight against a corrupt system with advanced technology?

Planning on shooting the bankers?

People don't Love their Guns. They Love their RIGHTS to have them. :)

I am safer. You're the one who needs a gun.

He who melts his gun into a plow will plow for the one who doesn't melt his gun.

That's just stupid.

Guns only have one purpose. This just shows that gun crazy types have pretty dark intentions. Its a sad situation when its easy to get guns and ammo, yet most Americans will never have full health insurance. Pretty scewed up sort of country if you ask me!

There are plenty of opportunities in Syria....

Because it's no different than having a nice car or a nice house.

People who own guns are on a power trip the only difference is they tend to play God with them.

Great avvie !
Steve1127
Thanks ! :-)

Second Amendment thing. Some love guns, some do not. I do not own one, 90 percent of the people I know, do not. Depends who and where.
Mikemcneil · 61-69, M
There are 300 million guns owned in America so you must know a lot of strange people if 90% of them do not.
18EXP11
1/3 of all American households have one....
Abbeyrhode
Because they have been brainwashed by the NRA to believe that the guns represent their "rights', and they are utterly freaked out by the idea of anyone depriving them of those "rights".

The south still refuses to admit they lost the war, while the dang Yankees keep figuring out new ways to exploit their stubbornness.

Because it gives a sense of empowerment and security. Very appealing when you're afraid.
darkmoonman
Old West mentality: he who shoots first wins.
Mikemcneil · 61-69, M
We don't live in the Old West though
Mikemcneil · 61-69, M
That explains a lot. Seen any Indians recently?

If you're a good shot, you can always count on the results.
