Why are people so woefully ignorant when it comes to anything science-related? Not you necessarily, but the answer is so simple.

There is no technology that keeps an eye on ALL the surrounding space 24/7 that could even detect these small meteor air-bursts. This was a tiny event. Compare it to Tunguska. We have these meteors hitting water on a regular basis. We don't even notice until they hit inhabited land.
