Be honest Americans, how often do the thoughts of the starving masses in third world countries cross your mind?

Shit I know if I went over to the areas where those oppressed are starving at the hands of their oppressors it would be like machine gun preacher all over again. Who's with me?

I live in a Canadian city with the highest instance of homeless people - there is impoverishment on these very street corners (complicated with drug addiction and mental illness, however).

Seemingly, your former president Bill Clinton has positive intent with his Global Initiative - promoting interdependence. And then the US has its various micro-loans. Obama has his "Power Africa" initiative.

Effort versus efficacy I suppose.

While there is tragedy across the globe.. if I were an American.. I would have PLENTY to be angry and saddened with at home.

Prolly mo than U think. We are blessed with so much food we throw away what would be fought over as dinner elsewhere. As I write this, perhaps one person has died with the word "water" as their last...eva fink a dat? And in USA it's disgusting to "let it mellow if it's yellow".
Ya, I do but I didn't tell them to have a ninth child after watching the first 8 starve.

People don't see or hear and touch the effected people, therefore they cannot empathize with them. Not much anyone can do anyways. Their shitluck for being born to a poor nation...

I'm not American to begin with, babe.

Well I hope you reside somewhere far away... perhaps Europe.

Even farther at one point.

And turn night into day with a switch! What wizardry hath is this? Much of the world's population has no electricity.

It is from my understanding, from school, that we can grow enough food to feed the world here in the US. I think of it daily.......I say that if we can do it, then we SHOULD do it.

Nah, that's not a long term solution to poverty.
Countries need to generate development (economically and politically) themselves, better the situation from within.

every time i eat and if i could i would gladly give them my food we all know i would have awhile before i would starve to death i would be more than happy to give my food to someone who needs it

When I'm not having a panic attack over potentially being homeless or not being able to afford food for the week.

"Machine gun preacher"? What, shoot the starving? Might work, come to think of it.

It's a movie and a good one at that.

Never. I'm trying to take care of my own life. I can't worry about other people.
PaleFox
More often than foreigners with food think of starving Americans.
