Will being a security guard help me to become a police officer later on?

I'm about to sign up to an 8 hour security guard training course that's set October 28th (4 days after my 18th birthday) to attain my security license so I can be a security guard, though I said in the past that later on in life, I want to be a police officer.Will me getting a job as a security guard help in becoming an officer later on?

It'd probably get you a little cred in the academy. My brother's a police officer, and he worked as a security guard for a bit. He told me his superiors appreciated that, so I say go for it.
