Can someone explain the Cambrian explosion?

This is something completely new to me. Some say that it disproves evolution, while others say it's proves it, while others say it's neutral. From what I've gathered, it's a time period where evolution began to diversify at a much faster rate, and is apparently unexplained.
Pyramania
It was a sudden proliferation of multi-celled life on earth, after two and a half billion years of having nothing bigger than bacteria. Biologist Nick Lane proposes in his book "The Vital Question" that it happened because of a unique event: the fusion of a bacterium with an archaeon (a very small organism similar to a bacterium but different) which led to the evolution of cells with nuclei.
