Isn't it a bit confusing that a person from Niger and someone from Nigeria are both called nigerians?
technically a person from Niger is a Nigerian and someone from Nigeria is a NigeriAn but still...

That's actually not correct; there's a difference: people from Nigeria are called Nigerians, while people from Niger are called Nigeriens (differently pronounced as differently spelled)
