Why is it so hard for a guy to admit that he messed up and apologize?

The thing is, he really does seem to care a lot about me. It's just that when he says or does something hurtful (which isn't very often at all), he will almost certainly never apologize. Otherwise, the rest of the time he is almost always showing me how much he cares about me. So I'm feeling really conflicted about this.

So his actions are telling you one thing and his verbal reasoning another.

Kind of, yeah. He's almost always showing me by the things he does how much he cares about me, but for some reason yesterday was a really bad day for us. He didn't seem to understand why I was so upset, and he actually told me that I was the one who messed up and acted like I had a problem. I don't think this is really typical of him, at least I hope it isn't. I'm going to have a talk with him today, now that I've cooled off a little, and see if we can come to an understanding. Wish me luck.
