Is everything that happens for our greater good?

I fell hard for someone when I was very young, but I later wished I had never met him. At first he seemed to really like me. Then he started jerking me around, acting like he couldn't decide whether he wanted to be more than friends or not. Then, after almost 2 years of this, he told me that he had only been pretending to like me in order to get my best friend jealous. For a long time after that, I wouldn't let anyone get too close to me.Then, for a long time after I finally learned to start trusting people again, I wished that I had never met him. I wondered if I might have been married with children a long time ago if he hadn't caused me to close myself off. (Of course, it was my choice to close myself off, but it was still hard not to blame him). But then, maybe if it hadn't been for him I might not appreciate the man I'm with now as much as I do. He is a man of integrity, who is very honest and loyal. So did something good come of that? I wonder.

I find it hard to believe that some things happen for the greater good. Things like the Holocaust are just horrible. What good came from millions of people dying? It was just a horrible thing to happen. On a personal level, I've been abused most of my life. I have mental illnesses that make it nearly impossible to have a real life. What good comes from all this? My life is daily misery, pain and loneliness. Nothing I try makes me any better at life. So where is the good?

Yeah, maybe not everything is. I wasn't really looking at the big picture, at everything that has happened in the world. My personal life is one thing, but all that other stuff, and things other people have been through, I don't know. You do make a good point.

And I'm sorry to hear that your life has been so painful, that you have been hurt so much.

I wonder why they felt the need to bleep out that word. The word they bleeped out was "j e r k i n g." That isn't a swear word. Maybe if I put a space between each of the letters, it won't get bleeped out this time. You don't think that that's a bad word, do you?

You will never really know. Depends a lot on whether you believe that everything in life is "pre planned" as it were!

Yeah, I'm not sure if everything is preplanned or not. I think the jury is still out on that one.

I believe that we are all masters of our own destiny, but I appreciate that there are a lot of people who don't agree with that!

I guess everything that happens to us can be used as an experience if we learn from it, and grow. Even the bad things.

True, as long as it doesn't kill us (literally).
