Why do some men stay friends with abusive men?

I understand abusive men, and why they think they are justified. But their friends, who are loyal friends and know what they do and even help spread lies about the kidz and wife ~ I don't know why they do it.

Some guys stay friends with abusive guys because before they were friends with that douche bag, maybe they were picked on or had low self esteem, and at least they have something to cling to now.
