Reasons to Live
The world is increasingly designed to depress us. Happiness isn't very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more?
For example:
How do you sell people your anti-ageing moisturiser? Make them worry about getting old;
How do you get people to vote Republican? Make them worry about immigration;
How do you get people to have plastic surgery? Make them worry about their physical imperfections.
How do you get people to watch TV shows? Make them worry about missing out.
How do you get people to but the latest iPhone? Make them worry about being left behind.
How do you get people to buy insurance? Make them worry about EVERYTHING!!
To be calm becomes a revolutionary act, of sorts. To be happy with your own non-upgraded existence and to be comfortable with our messy, human selves is not good for business...
Embrace yourself and all that you are! (Matt Haig)
