Absolutes really do exist, and here's an example of one.

"There are no absolute truths" - True or False?

I ask this question because, whilst at university, I had this teacher, a fan of post-modernism, who thought he could make statements like this in my presence and get away with it.
This one is like the liar paradox (i.e. "This statement is a lie", or "I am lying"). That is, it's self-defeating, therefore inconsistent and illogical, and therefore it cannot possibly be true. It is therefore false.
Since what we have here is at least one example of a falsehood, the belief that some hold to that "all is relative" has been falsified.

Alethic or factual relativism is Nietzsche's thing. But I am certain that the internal angles of a triangle always add up to 180 degrees.

Having said that, there are few absolute truths.

@Northwest Who are they? I don't have an alias. You are being paranoid.

@Northwest Only in Euclidian geometry.

@ninalanyon I don't know about "only", but at a minimum, in Spherical and Hyperbolic geometry, it's not always 180 degrees. My point is that if you provide a specific context, you may be able to come up with an absolute truth, but an absolute truth is a rarity.
