Does anyone know at what point many colleges and universities gave up on teaching reasoning skills?

At what point did it start and how and why. When I was in University the power of reason was a primary instruction, but it has changed somewhat.

the student should be prepared coming into college...
that's a tool students should have learned in high school...
however, i am more than aware of the short comings of the modern curricula

@SW-User I don't think they are emotionally equipped to embrace the power of reason over emotional thinking in high-school (well at least not fully)?

@okaybut the groundwork should be established in lit classes ...although college is meant to challenge

@SW-User I would agree that a major aspect of logical thinking can be found in classical literature (and Philosophy). Good call.
