recommend a dvd player please

I don't have one, and I'd like to get one. Preferably new. Must be either region-free or openly support region-4 (which covers Australia).

Thanks.

Nowadays DVD players only make sense if you like watching material that's not available on streaming services.
I use a DVD player to watch opera recordings.

@justanothername Because they are a captive market and once you're sucked in it's very hard to get away - I use to have Foxtel (Australian pay tv) a very long time ago and dumped it entirely after it started to introduce ads.

@butterflybaby75 ads are hiw they make money. Yes I’m familiar with Foxtel 👍
Streaming is the new pay tv.

@butterflybaby75 I guess you could unplug the tv and just do other stuff like read books. Lots of books.

@JuliusCaesar My laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, otherwise I could use that. I don't have any Xbox or gaming system. Not into that.

I bought one off Amazon. They are all about the same and the chips that drive them use the same specs. The main difference is how they connect to your computer, their packaging or maybe if it allows the unit to be operated independently by attaching to your home network. Those options drive up the price.

My computer (A Panasonic toughbook CF-31) can support an internal DVD drive but it currently doesn't have one. They're nigh on impossible to get here in Oz so has to come from the USA. I used to own a couple of Hiteker DVD players but that was years ago.

A blu ray player instead of a DVD player would be better.I like Sony or Panasonic but any branded make will be fine. You may need to to buy an HDMI cable if you do not already own one.

I didn’t know they still made them
