@hartfire rubbish, savings on fuel isn’t enough they cost a fortune, the electricity costs a fortune and it costs a fortune to own and if something doesn break you are stuffed cause no mechanic can fix it plus you cant go on roadtrips. I am in the midst of ordering an electric car.

It's the free energy from the sun that does most of the savings - not plugging-in to mains nuclear or fossil fuels. Is wind power available in your area? It's supercheap. Also USA has a lot of solar-thermal.
