Can a computer be "too new" for an operating system?
I thought about reinstalling windows 98 on some computer to use it offline for some old games.

@scooogy modern hardware can't process some older operating systems. That was my first thought on this.
It depends exactly the operating system and what hardware. Think about how chips have changed, even at a basic level. They have changed in size and sophistication.
But it would depend on specifics. So it's possible but possibly not.
