Sadly manufacturers are shifting to automatic transmissions for the "best" driving experience.
The irony in this is if it breaks down then it's gonna cost a fortune to replace the gearbox as compared to that of a manual transmission.

@Beatbox34 Yeah, the new 6-speed and CVT gearboxes do provide better power and MPG as opposed to the old 4-speed. So I guess you could say those gearboxes have also taken the place of the old manual.

@SubstantialKick Manuals are dying. But you could achieve a higher MPG in a manual generally over an auto.
Driving a manual is way more fun than a CVT too. I'd consider a DSG gearbox over a CVT if I had to choose an auto.

@Beatbox34 I've heard mixed things about CVT's, especially Honda and Nissan. I probably would choose a stick over a CVT if I had a choice.

@SubstantialKick CVT's are normally used in Japanese vehicles and they're known to be super reliable. The only downside is they're super boring to drive and take a long time to shift gears.
DSG's are mostly used in German vehicles are unreliable but fun to drive.
