What am I missing here?

So this house I'm buying was built in 2017. On my first quick pass through the house I noticed all the bedrooms had an ethernet jack, as well as one directly below the tv mount in the living room. I was so excited that finally someone had enough sense to wire a home.

Upon further inspection, because they just didn't look right, they're all phone jacks. Why would anyone wire an entire house, and the tv, for telephone and not ethernet?!

It was built in 2017 and they put Ethernet jacks in it? I didn't know people still used Ethernet. That's been obsolete since I was a preteen.
@BlueMetalChick I'll take a wired connection over wifi anyday when given the option.

@SooperSarah Why? You want limited-as-fuck slow ass internet? What, do you use a fucking desktop computer from 2005?
@BlueMetalChick Ethernet is much more reliable, consistent, and not prone to interference. My devices won't all lose connection because someone turns on the microwave.

@BlueMetalChick Hey, nothing wrong with a wired connection here and there. Like prioritize what you want to stay in one place, like a game system or desktop pc, and leave the WiFi for everything else 🤡

@SooperSarah It's more reliable if you live somewhere with no cell towers, maybe, because it's a hardwired connection. But if you live in an area where it's fairly common to have towers at least somewhat nearby, using Ethernet is silly. It's like using an electric typewriter instead of a keyboard.

@CrustyDDingus A wired connection is great if you're a drug dealer, and that's not even a joke. You need a hard tap to snoop on a conversation being held over a landline as where a wireless call can be remotely intercepted.
@BlueMetalChick I have a fiber connection. It has nothing to do with cell towers.

@BlueMetalChick now you know why most of my conversations with you are on my desktop via wired connection 😏

@SooperSarah I live in the city so WiFi connection is the standard since the signal is strong everywhere. Using Ethernet would just cost me more money and be a shittier, slower connection with far less capacity.
@BlueMetalChick higher population density actually makes wifi an even worse option.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SooperSarah Then I guess it's just magic and coincidence that it works faster and more reliably than an outdated cable connection.
@BlueMetalChick the cable connection is what usually supplies the wifi network with its connection to the internet. Are you talking about a home wifi network or a mobile data connection?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SooperSarah Oh fuck mobile data, that's garbage.
