Good question. the only thing I can think of is God.
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley So a scientist in a lab experimenting with microbes on a dish or a child with mouldy dishes under their bed.

@HoraceGreenley I was going to answer that but realised as I was typing it may offend you so I am not going to say it.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae I don't get offended. Ever. I don't start flame wars. So go ahead.
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley Alright. I was simply going to say that well, light cannot exist without a source like stars and plants cannot survive without photosynthesis needing sunlight. And originally god had a wife. And if god is all great why did he create things like the zombie ant fungus and the devil (yes he is responsible for the devil. he was just a rebellious angel previously till god got involved), and why would we be told this if he wanted us to worship him. and how can a being exist in a time before time existed, its impossible. their atoms would be torn apart. Look, I understand the psychology of religion. Its a fear of death thats engrained in us all to a molecular level. we cannot understand or grasp the concept of nothingness so it scares us so our brains fill in the gaps with stuff like heaven and so on and so forth so I dont judge those who find comfort in it as I associate it with coping techniques such as meditation, PMR and CBT.

@BlackcurrentSundae Good questions.

First, I believe, as does the Catholic Church, that the Big Bang is how the universe was created. The Church and I also believe in the Evolution of the Material Universe after the Big Bang and the Biological Evolution of life.

I don't know the answer to the "why" part.

However, I do know that science can't answer your question of what came before the Big Bang. Obviously, everything materialized somehow. I have no idea how. So I'm leaving that to the Supreme Being.
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley Well i'm glad they evolved their thinking. Last time I went to church I went to see a science show there (I know). It was for the kids but I thought I may as well go with them as it was somthing to do. They completed threw away the concept of the big bang. Even the kids were picking out plot holes.

@BlackcurrentSundae Well the Church is in a difficult position. For 1900 years they taught the literal interpretation of the Bible. The 20th Century made them realize that such a view is impossible. But the Church can't run around and say were wrong then but were not wrong now.

So they keep their official position under cover for the most part. Once in a while they let it out.

The Church has priests who are scientists. It's the only way they can develop their positions on ethics.

Hubble actually based his work on the expansion of the universe on the work a Catholic priest did at the Vatican Observatory. That observatory was a world class on up to WWI.

The Church knew that the literal interpretation of the Bible was untenable for a long time. But they are caught in a trap.
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley So why is it near common knowledge that they do not believe in the science of evolution and the big bang. Why isnt everyone getting on the progressive bandwagon.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae As I said, the Church does not promote this to the public.
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley They do realise if they just own up they were mistaken, itll hurt em but save them a lot of grief in the future and allow for a wider following meaning more money.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae Perhaps. I don't know why they do what they do.

But anyway, I explained my beliefs.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae and thank you for the civil conversation. They can be hard to find here.
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley I always intend to participate in a civil conversation. My mental health limits me to either civil conversation or blocking the troll. Never used to be the case but recent events has left me quite yeah.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae Fair enough. I wanted to let you know I appreciated it.

What are you studying? I have a degree in Biology
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley I'm taking a break from science for a year as I get too argumentive so im doing circus L3. Its good therapy and I find it a lot harder than science.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae What's circus L3?
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley Level 3 BTEC Circus and performing arts.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae Is that something that you are studying in school?
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@BlackcurrentSundae
So why is it near common knowledge that they do not believe in the science of evolution and the big bang. Why isnt everyone getting on the progressive bandwagon.
Evolution is theory
Big Bang is theory

It was once accepted that the Earth was flat and was at the center of the solar system. The true progressives of the era were people like Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei that disproved such idiotic assumptions...🤔
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@wildbill83 Theory in science doesn't mean the same thing as it does in ordinary speech.

Both are considered fact.
BlackcurrentSundae · 22-25, F
@HoraceGreenley Its part of an organisation linked to a nation wide circus however I cannot reveal the name without revealing my location XD It goes through an official exam board and the qualification is recognised and accepted by universities.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@BlackcurrentSundae Gotcha. I can guess. But I understand. That's very cool.
