What is power now?

So before Islam the East was very ahead science wise (Google made me think of it) and then Islam and specifically Muhammad made it so only the Koran was acceptable to read and the West eventually surpassed them (except China and Japan). Religion used to be power. What is power now in your opinion? I don't mean control, I mean in the fate of the world, Islam did not just control people it altered fate.
