Modern science is based on greek philosophy, neo-platonism and metaphysics, whereas the Bible is based on rationalism, empiricism and materialism.

Most people mix this up and have it totally backwards. Allow me to explain and illustrate this by comparing both cosmologies. The Biblical model of the universe is the earth as a fixed and motionless level plain bounded by a solid vault of the sky, within which the sun, moon and stars all revolve, and Heaven is literally above and right on the other side of the dome and Hell is literally below. The Bible does not speak of other dimensions or multiverses. God is up in a discrete, physical and concrete location sitting upon the circle of the earth. So it ends up being quite a materialist view. There's no greek metaphysics in the Bible.

Now, let's compare this with modern physics and astronomy: you get parallels universes, string theory, 10 or 11 dimensions talked about by theoretical physicists like Michio Kaku and others. You get "Reality is not what is seems" by Carlo Rovelli, which posits as it's most central theme that our everyday sensory experience of the universe is just an illusion and that at the deepest, most microscopic level, reality is radically different from what we perceive, lacking isolated objects, absolute space, and a steady, universal flow of time. What flows from this is quantum mysticism. You get a spinning globe rotating around the sun in a vacuum of ever-expanding space, 100 sextillion to 1 septillion planets in the universe, 2 trillion galaxies, wormholes that birth entirely new, expanding universes on the other side, black holes that many are now saying our entire universe might exist inside of, and the list goes on.

Modern science is a religion of metaphysics, mysticism and science fiction. The inspiration or basis for many theories and new ideas during the scientific revolution was not based on empirical data and experimentation; rather, they were driven by the metaphysical and aesthetically charged geometrical atomism of pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Pythagoras.

We can summarize the extent of metaphysical foundations of modern science as follows:

• The Pythagorean-Neo-Platonist view that the underlying nature of the universe is mathematical, assumed a priori and based on the aesthetic principles of harmony, simplicity, and beauty (Copernicus et al)

• Deification of the Sun and assumption that harmonious mathematical structures cause observable phenomenon (Kepler)

• Atomism: physical universe is comprised of indestructible particles that have only mathematical properties (Galileo et al)

• A priori assumption that all empirical phenomenon can be reduced to mathematical relationships (all)

• Universe viewed as “geometrical machine” (Descartes)

• Concept of primary/secondary qualities: only mathematical qualities of physical objects are real; secondary qualities (smell, taste, color, etc) are figments of the mind (all)

• Radical mind-body dualism: minds/souls completely detached and separate from the real, physical world (Descartes et al)

In my opinion, the greatest (certainly my favorite) scientific invention is an idea called The Scientific Method. It’s a concept of methodology that came out of The Enlightenment (still going) and has no physical existence.

The scientific method is a step-by-step process used to ask questions, test ideas, collect data, and draw conclusions based on evidence. The basic steps usually include asking a question, doing research, forming a hypothesis, testing it with an experiment, analyzing the data, drawing a conclusion, and sharing the results.

The scientific method helps people understand how the natural world works by using evidence instead of guesses.

The steps of the scientific method in order are listed below:

1. Ask a Question
2. Do Background Research
3. Form a Hypothesis
4. Test the Hypothesis (Experiment)
5. Analyze the Data
6. Draw a Conclusion
7. Share Results (Communication)

Falsification is also involved.

There is nothing metaphysical in science. If the claim isn’t testable, there is no science.

The fictional bible is all about the metaphysical. No methodology can be applied.
