Science Experiment

Which one will freeze faster? The hot water (left) or cold water (right)? My son read about this, and he wanted to test it. Since it's 28 degrees Fahrenheit outside, I thought we should try it.

Edit: Forgot the photo!
Logically it would be the cold one as that's already closer, but I believe I've read somewhere it's actually the hot one. I don't remember the explanation anymore though.

If I'm right, I wonder if it works the other way around too: does water from the fridge boil faster than water from the tap?

@NerdyPotato I might have to test that one next. That's a good question.
@UnstableDiffusion if it does, I'm going to keep a few liters of tap water in my fridge at all times.

the cold water because the atoms are already slowing down. In the hot water, they're still moving around

@MethDozer interesting

@DeluxedEdition I’d happily do some science experiments with you D:

The cold water will freeze faster, but the hot water will cool down more degrees than the cold water does during a given interval of time.
UnstableDiffusion · 36-40, M
@MethDozer I have noticed that. That's pretty cool.

@UnstableDiffusion I'm just hedging a bet. The Mpemba effect doesn't always occure. It's condition specific.
