The Illusory Truth Effect

The illusory truth effect, also known as the illusion of truth, describes how, when we hear the same false information repeated again and again, we often come to believe it is true. Troublingly, this even happens when people should know better—that is, when people initially know that the misinformation is false.

The most interesting part is watching how many fight and hold tenaciously to the false information even as it is being dismantled and discredited right in front of their eyes …

But no! Governments around the world said it, public health officials around the world said it, media outlets said it over and over again …. So it has to be true

No, no, and hell no! I won’t do your homework for you!

To debate anything … one must become an expert at both sides of an argument. Until you’ve thoroughly researched your opposition, you don’t factually know anything. You’re just a mouthpiece repeating and plagiarizing what you’ve been given or told … also known as sheep! Sheep led so easily to the slaughter.

by this argument, which has a surface sheen of intellectual rigour, as no one can know everything, no one can know anything.

(i do exaggerate just a little, for dramatic effect. )

@Yulianna no that is not an exaggeration! It’s a brilliant commentary! The search for truth is the most illusive of all, and never does one find it. Only the illusion of finding it!! Great comment!👍🏻👍🏻
Mmm...I reckon the Governments of the UK did a great job of scaring folk into submission to the extent some still can’t bring themselves to live normally.
Only bad facts presented.....the ones didn’t fit the narrative not allowed to be heard.
Still waiting for the Tsunami of infections that were going to hit Wales over the Christmas /New Year to appear....

@Yulianna you are correct, I don’t know anything! There are very few things that aren’t illusionary to some degree…
The illusionary truth effect is more extensive than it appears …
Every truth we think we know is based on repeated experiences with it to the point we think we know it. But all we really know is that it has been our experience to this point.

@Extant1 you say you know nothing and then make expansive statements claiming knowledge of how we are.

this is totally illogical.

@Yulianna welcome to the real world …

They hold tenaciously to information because they want to be right at all costs and can't admit they aren't.

We could call it BiasWorlds. 😄
Extant1 · M
@Magenta 😂😂😂 oh that’s perfect! Indeed!
I don’t think they teach bias anymore in the universities … it might produce critical thinking! 🥃

It started with the inception of the Holy Roman Empire / Roman Catholic Church which Constantine came up with to control all in his domain. Governments and Religions have copied it ever since with good results for those that want control of the masses.
Extant1 · M
That is absolutely correct! All of it is about control and power !@acpguy
