Science is based upon questioning, including even itself.

It is by questioning itself that in Physics, for instance, we have come to understand that notions/theories often have some "regime of validity", and that going beyond that leads to problems, and reveals the need for new ideas/theories.

Of course, having a strong consensus in the regime of validity means you better have amazing data...
