Science is based upon questioning, including even itself.
It is by questioning itself that in Physics, for instance, we have come to understand that notions/theories often have some "regime of validity", and that going beyond that leads to problems, and reveals the need for new ideas/theories.
Of course, having a strong consensus in the regime of validity means you better have amazing data...
If you can come up with a better explanation for why something happened that explains things better than the current accepted scientific explanations, then your explanation will become the new scientific explanation.
No actual scientist will tell you that what is the current scientific consensus now or at any time is the absolute truth without question.
