Did ancient egyptians really use sand to seal their tombs?

Like in the mummy?
I recall a British movie that took place in ancient Egypt in which sand was used. It had containers that supported massive blocks. When the containers were broken, the sand seeped out and gravity did the rest. The tomb was sealed.

The movie was Land of the Pharaohs staring Jack Hawkins.
