Thank you for your interesting post. My school days were in the era when corporal punishment in schools was considered normal. I attended six schools between England and Australia, including one year of boarding when in England. I got some form of cp at all of them. My heyday however was my last school which was a private Catholic boys school. I spent 5 years at that school and it was a very good school, but strict, with no hesitation to cane boys who broke the rules or otherwise misbehaved. Saying that, the cane wasn't always the first response, there were other forms of punishment (lines, detention, garden duties, etc).

I noted your comment about the few seconds before you felt the sharp sting. I always had the same observation, but only with the first stroke of the cane; subsequent strokes were immediately painful. My canings were usually delivered in a measured way, that is, not rapid-fire.

When you got the cane, did you regret being curious?

I must confess, from when I was about 8, I too was curious about the cane, after seeing many boys get it at the front of the class by the teacher. Most didn't respond much, except one boy who always hopped from one foot to another when he got it, much to the amusement of the rest of the class

I did get the cane when I was about 10, with a large group of other boys. It certainly stung, but later I was glad of the experience and it was something of an initiation!

An interesting story. I don't know that I was curious about getting punished at school. I was what my mom used to call hyper and today it would probably be called ADHD. We got the strap which was administered on the hands when I attended school. I recall the embarrassment of my first experience with it when I was in 5th grade and had to stand in the hallway to take it. Everybody in the classroom could hear and when I reentered rubbing my hands there were nervous giggles and a couple whispered comments from some male classmates. It was the first of about a dozen times I got the strap at school. There was a code among the boys that if you could take it well it showed how tough you were.

Two strokes was certainly preferable to a detention.
