@Lynda70 you are absolutely correct. It was considered the correct way to discipline children. Sadly, it did occasionally become abusive.

@Lynda70 So true. Even if you were a goody-goody, it was virtually impossible to avoid corporal punishment once in a while.

@GailCob I don't think anyone at my school completely avoided it. The goody-goodies were often set up for a slippering.

@huggy001 Same here. I was slippered bare bottom at primary school and caned bare bottom at secondary school. It probably wasn't allowed but when did teachers ever obey the rules?

@GailCob Setting someone up for the slipper often meant getting it ourselves as well, but it was worth it. ;)

@Lynda70 Very true! And a perfect illustration of pain and pleasure. One time my planning went over the top and I ended up getting the cane. But so did the goody goody swot - her first - and I became a class legend.

@huggy001 Inevitable in my day. And usually the slipper or cane.

@Lynda70 It was meant to be a minor scuffle, usually meaning the slipper. But this wallflower of a girl showed an aspect of character never seen before or since, and went for me tooth and nail and it turned into a real fight. Like with the form mistress in the room. She had no option but to take us to the headmistress.

@GailCob Fighting usually meant the cane in my school too. A minor scuffle usually meant the slipper but some teachers have been known to turn a blind eye.

@Lynda70 same at both my schools fighting was dealt with bt the cane mainly on underwear,but sometimes bare bottom, or suspension for a week
